Back in 2011, I said something that’s stuck with me for a long time. Jeremy Soule’s tracks were hit or miss for me when I was younger, to the point where I even called them “soulless.” Maybe I was just young and looking for a different vibe. Regardless, I now feel that Jeremy Soule’s work is what gives The Elder Scrolls such a strong identity. Without him, the series might not have the same impact it does today.
I can only imagine the excitement everyone feels stepping into Whiterun for the first time, welcomed by the breathtaking theme he composed. The adventurous tracks plays as you journey through Skyrim, adding to the experience without ever feeling overwhelming or out of place.
There are games that at some point you just get tired of hearing the themes… with Soule’s work it’s not as tiring or having that effect that you just want to mute it for a while.
